Captain America: Civil War Strengths in regards to my topic of my Independent Study:

  • In Civil War, it is not a typical heroes vs. disposable, forgettable, one-off evil villains (who will only last one movie), it is a heroes vs. heroes, friends vs. friends film, with superheroes that we have come into terms with, have bonded over with and have sympathized and empathized with for so many years.  Therefore, having superheroes who used to work so collaboratively together beat the crap out of each other in this film, allows us to sympathize with them more and allows us to fully concentrate on their actions and their consequence, and this allows the film to increase the tensions and stakes at an extremely high rate, because seeing a superhero get hurt because of their own friends is in my opinion, is an extremely tensional moment, especially when we have seen them working together for so many years and now they are fighting.

The Matrix Analysis:

  • (2:53) - Trinity Escape Action Scene Part 1 - As always, like all contemporary, modern-day action films, this action sequence has a lot of cuts comparing to olden-day action films like Yojimbo or Seven Samurai, the camera tends to want to or mainly focus on the protagonist's actions rather than allowing the audience to fully witness the full consequences of her actions, there is a freeze frame part where the shot freezes then does a 360 degree angle around the protagonist about to attack a security guard,  A wide variety of shots are used

  • (3:45) - Trinity Escape Action Scene Part 2 - Lot of dollying and tracking and panning shots in this action sequence, along with a combination of low and high angle shots, a bit of slow-motion used here, high angle shot panning to the left of Trinity making a long jump over the streets from one building to another, there is one point where Trinity is crashing flying to crash through a window that I felt was a tiny, teensy bit too CGI and green screen, but this shows how much action films nowadays are relying on advanced technology and CGI in order to create what they want on screen in order to convey their stories better, the antagonists of the film in this action sequence are filmed in darkness and shadow, wearing shades to further emphasize that darkness, to portray and identify them as the villains of the film.
